This article about Manhattan Laundromats going belly up reminded me of some other previous blog posts that touched on some of these subjects. When I had written the "Manhattan laundromat" blog, I could see that the pricing in many of these stores didn't jive with doing business in NYC, or the boonies for that matter. It also reminds retail store owners, if you can swing it - buy the building. As the article states, demand is there as the people pile up in front of these stores wondering why they're closed. The industry as a whole needs to change and this economy, as many predicted, is shaking out many of the weak stores.

I own a building that had a laundromat in it since 1980. I actually owne the business for a time too, then sold the business to not-very-business minded people who are now failing at another location. Any recommendations on how I can get another laundromat to move-in? I can send you a note directly (privately via email) if you like.
